Ramsgate Community Cinema is a voluntary-run venue and the home of the Kent Film Foundation charity, which delivers free youth film and arts programmes alongside networking events for professional filmmakers. As a member of the BFI Film Audience Network (FAN), the cinema uses film and the arts to inspire young minds in the local community. The foundation aims to acquire a dedicated Arts & Entertainment venue in Ramsgate to expand its offerings with a varied programme of theatre, music, and film.

What To Know

Key Information

The cinema’s roots lie in a non-profit initiative started by local filmmakers in Thanet, a region facing significant deprivation and limited opportunities for young people. Through attaching training elements to feature film shoots, the project successfully helped young talent progress into entry-level film industry roles, film schools, and drama schools. Inspired by her own experiences growing up, one filmmaker established the Kent Film Foundation in 2010 to provide free workshops led by professional filmmakers, opening doors for young people regardless of background. The charity has earned recognition, including a nomination for the Colyer Fergusson 50th Anniversary Award for "Unlocking Opportunities."

Ramsgate Community Cinema offers a warm and welcoming space in the heart of Ramsgate, screening a diverse selection of films from timeless classics to cutting-edge independent productions. The cinema has become a beloved cultural hub where cinephiles and local residents come together to share their love of film and enjoy unique community experiences. It is committed to creating memorable moments of cinematic magic for audiences of all ages and interests.
